Many Scout or Youth groups own or hire a minibus for group activities. Whilst minibuses are a relatively safe form of passenger transport, it is recognised that drivers need skills over and above those required for driving a car.
MIDAS, the most recognised course for minibus drivers, is available from Berkshire Scout Enterprises, for Scout Leaders and other adults involved in Scouting or other Youth organisations.
Duration
Two half days.
Content
Driver assessment, legal requirements, defensive driving, passenger safety, child passenger safety and personal safety for drivers, breakdown, accident and emergency procedures. Demonstration and practical test.
Qualification
Those who successfully complete the course receive the Minibus Drivers Handbook and the MIDAS Competence Certificate, which many minibus hiring organisations now require.
